Switch Officially Passes Wii U Lifetime Sales

Nintendo has officially released its quarter 3 earnings for the fiscal year 2017; Which ended December 31, 2017. Below are some of the highlights from the earnings report.

Hardware Sales:

Nintendo Switch Lifetime to Date (LTD) sales are now at 14.86 million units after 10 months of release, officially passing the lifetime sales of the Wii U console. Nintendo has raised their forecast to 15 million units for the fiscal year, with a projected LTD sales of 17.73 million by March, 31 2017.

Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima stated that Nintendo expects to sell 20 million plus units in fiscal year 2018(April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019).

By Region (LTD):

  • Americas – 5.94 M (40%)
  • Japan – 3.72 M (25%)
  • Other – 5.20 M (35%)

The Nintendo 3DS lifetime to date sales are now at 71.99 Million (+3.0 Million from last quarter)

Software Sales:

  • Super Mario Odyssey – 9.07 M
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 7.33 M (+2.91 M)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch) – 6.7 M (+2.0 M)
  • Splatoon 2 – 4.91 M (+1.3 M)
  • 1.2 Switch – 1.88 M (+0.51 M)
  • ARMS – 1.61 M (+0.26 M)
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – 1.06 M
  • Pokemon US/UM (3DS) – 7.17 M

Nintendo stated that software sales for the Nintendo Switch were at 52.57 million lifetime to date, with 7.24 million coming in quarter 3. The Switch has 8 million plus sellers in its first year on the market with Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild leading the way with over 6 million plus sales each. Overseas – 7.31M units
Global LTD – 9.07M units

Japan – 1.38M units
Overseas – 5.96M units

Japan – 2.21M units
Overseas – 2.7M units
Global LTD – 4.91M units

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Japan – 0.51M units
Overseas – 3.43M units
Global LTD – 6.7M units

Japan – 0.4M units
Overseas – 1.21M units
Global LTD – 1.61M units

Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Japan – 0.26M units
Overseas – 0.8M units
Global LTD – 1.06M units
