Switch Firmware V6.1 Released

Nintendo has released an update for both the main Switch hardware, as well as an update for the Joycons. This is a minor update with no visual changes to the systems UI. Below are the known changes.

  • General system stability improvements
  • Resolved an issue where certain games didn’t recognize a Nintendo Switch Online membership for a short time after purchase

The changes in the Joycon firmware update is unknown to us at the time of publishing. We will update this story as we find out more.

How to Update Console Firmware

    1. Select the “System Settings” on the HOME Menu.
    2. Scroll down through the System Settings menu and select “System.”
    3. Select “System Update,” to start the system update process.

During the process, the system will first perform a check to determine if a new system update is available.
If an update is available, the download process will begin automatically.

How to update the Joycon firmware

  1. Select the “System Settings” on the HOME Menu.
  2. Scroll down through System Settings menu and select “Controllers and Sensors”
  3. Select “Update Controllers,” to start the Joycon controller update process.
