Rivals of Aether Headed To Nintendo Switch

Dan Fornace, creator of the Smash Bros demake Super Smash Land has given an update on his indie fighting game Rivals of Aether. First rumored back in January of 2018, Fornace said the team was looking into releasing the title on Nintendos hybrid console but would not confirm plans officially.

While at Super Smash Con this earlier this month, he released a video message to give updates on the game and confirmed that the game is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch, although a release date was not announced. Fornace said he hoped the release would happen soon.

For now, Fornace said the team is working hard and that they redoing the netcode to support the Switch and new features overall.

“One of the biggest upgrades is that Rivals will be going from a two-player online game to up to four players, which means you’ll be able to queue for 1v1, 2v2, or free-for-all online. We’re also updating the friendly lobbies system, allowing you also to go up to four players, but you can go past that and have spectators. This allows you to do rotation lobbies. You can also spectate four-player matches. So these are all a ton of upgrades we’ve been working on behind-the-scenes.”

While I have not had a chance to play this game myself, I did play Super Smash Land which has always made me a fan of Dan Fornace. Perhaps with Nintendos IndieWorld presentation on Monday we will hear more then. Let us know in the comments below on what you think of this title coming to the Nintendo Switch.

I grew up on the Atari, Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega Genesis. I started my love affair with gaming with Mario, as most kids do, and continued it with Dragon Warrior(Dragon Quest for those who don't know history). Some of my favorite games growing up were the simplest, with Adventure for the Atari 2600 being one of the games I had the most fun with. Still to this day I enjoy that game, and those duck looking dragons. Today I play a variety of games when my mind will let me, which comes in spurts. Right now I am playing a bit of Minecraft.
