NPD Group Makes A Bold Prediction About Switch
Industry analyst Mat Piscatella of the NPD Group has made a bold prediction about this holiday season’s video game sales. With the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S launching this November, it’s easy to expect that the Nintendo Switch will be on the back burner for a lot of people but this prediction is the exact opposite.
Nintendo Switch will be the best-selling console of holiday 2020 – Switch will also be a hot holiday gifting item with more households picking up multiple Switch consoles in the fourth quarter. The lack of available inventory of new PlayStations and Xbox systems will leave Switch as an appealing available option (although supply may still be difficult to find).
I think his assumption of the lack of inventory for both Sony and Microsoft’s newest consoles will be accurate, I also think the launch prices of both systems will positively affect Switch sales as well. I can see parents being more inclined to spend $200/$300 for a new Nintendo Switch Lite/Nintendo Switch than spending the $400-500 for the newest consoles on the market. Before you bash me, I know the Series S is only $299.99.
