Nintendo Network Accounts Hacked, Here’s what affected.
Nintendo has been flying high with last month’s release of Animal Crossing: New Horizon but they recently admitted their current success streak hit a minor bump with the report of 160,000 unauthorized log-ins of Nintendo Accounts via Nintendo Network IDS’s (NNID) starting at the beginning of April.
With this revelation, Nintendo has removed the ability to log in to Nintendo Network accounts via the NNID and has reset the passwords of those affected by this hack. The account owners who were affected by this will be sent an email from Nintendo detailing this and encouraging them to change their passwords.
While some personal information may have been lost, which includes information such as nicknames, date of birth, country/region, email addresses, and genders were accessed, Nintendo has stated that no credit card information was compromised.
Nintendo has also started recommending the use of 2-factor authentication with your Nintendo Network accounts. If you need more details on how to set up 2-factor authentication you can check out the Nintendo of America page about it.
